CALDERA drawing
Gallery

Caldera is a round washbasin made of cast concrete. Designed by Valentino Marengo in 2017.

Caldera presents a design concept influenced by the practicality of ancient objects, drawing inspiration from the Cycladic culture of the Bronze Age. In Cycladic art, wash bowls were crafted with a distinct structure, often supported by three legs. Reflecting this tradition, Caldera features an organic shape reminiscent of ancient handcrafted artifacts.

Caldera is named after the Greek word meaning a large cauldron-like hollow, formed shortly after the emptying of a magma chamber during a volcano eruption. The volcanic area in Santorini is referred to as Caldera.

Appearance

Every piece may exhibit color variations on its surface, as well as among other pieces of the same product or sample products. The concrete surface exhibits surface voids that are caused by the air. This is a natural property of concrete. This is only visible on the external side of the washbasin.
